One of my Favorite Wedding Photos by Sunny Thomas

This is one of my favorites.  It’s not what you would typically expect.  The photo you may have expected might have been a bride walking down the aisle or a bride and groom kissing.

While those can be beautiful images, I am drawn to this one because of the story it tells.   It may seem like just a group of friends sitting around the fire, but there is so much more.  The wedding ceremony is over.  The reception is almost over.  The bride and groom are chatting with their guests inside.  The bridal party’s responsibilities have ended.  So they go outside and sip some wine and enjoy the warmth of the fire.  They kick off their shoes and reminisce about the fun times they’ve had in the past.  They know that after today, their tribe will be different.  Things won’t be like they once were.   So they pause and they savor this moment.

Every wedding can have hundreds of these types of moments.  As a photographer, I look for these special moments. My job is to capture these brief instances so that you can cherish them forever. When the wedding ends, you’ll forget about the food and the flowers.  All that’s left will be your photos to help your remember these special moments.

Looking back - When Jeff and Meagan Got Married by Sunny Thomas

Over the past 8 years, I’ve had the privilege of photographing many, many weddings.  It has been a great experience to step into peoples lives on their happiest day and record all the moments that they may otherwise forget.  I get to help preserve those memories.  Couples will use those wedding pictures to reminisce with each other and to share those memories with their kids and grandkids.

One of my favorite weddings I got to photograph was my nephew’s.  He and is wife just celebrated their third wedding anniversary.  So to mark the occasion, I went through their photos again.  It was great to be able to look back at the photos and relive the day.

Here are some of my favorites.

Mary and Ephantus Got Married by Sunny Thomas

It was a beautiful day at Will Rogers Park in Oklahoma City.  On this Saturday in May, Mary and Ephantus were joined as one.  It was a beautiful ceremony and reception.  It was very cool to see how they incorporated their traditions throughout the day.  One that I especially liked was when all the women at the reception would go out of the building and meet the bridal party as they are walking to the reception.  The women greet the bridal party as they are singing and dancing.  Then everyone joins in the singing and dancing as they enter the reception area together.  It was a pleasure to photograph.  You can see the some of my favorite pictures in this highlight video.  Enjoy!

Shannon and Matt Got Married - A Sneak Peek by Sunny Thomas

It's hard to believe it was only a few weeks ago when I photographed Matt and Shannon for their engagement portraits.  Yesterday, I had the privilege of photographing their wedding.  It was a beautiful day at Tres Suenos Winery and Vineyard in Luther, Oklahoma.  Matt and Shannon picked the perfect time for their wedding as well.  Early evening is a great time to take pictures.  Here are some pictures I took after the ceremony.  I'll post more soon.

Justin and Nimmy Got Married! by Sunny Thomas

I love to photograph weddings.  I love to capture that special time when two lives become united as one.  For some weddings, it is not just a joining of two people, but also the joining of two families.  That was the case with Justin and Nimmy's wedding.  It was a day long celebration of two families joining together.  Here are some favorite images from the day.  The wedding ceremony was a First Church in downtown Oklahoma City and the reception was at Tower Hotel also in Oklahoma City.

Eric and Kristin Got Married! by Sunny Thomas

This past weekend, I had the privilege of shooting with Jamie Limberg of Studio Westway.  We photographed a wedding at the historic Mayo Hotel in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma.  This was my first time photographing at this location.  It's a very cool building and the staff were great to work with.  Here are a few of my favorite images from Eric and Kristin's special day.  Enjoy!

Mark and Dara Got Married! by Sunny Thomas

It's always fun to collaborate with another photographer.  I had the opportunity to do that for Mark and Dara's wedding last month.  I was the assistant photographer for this wedding and I was assisting Jamie Limberg of Studio Westway.  Jamie is an awesome photographer and I really enjoy working with her.

The grounds at the Gilcrease Museum are very nice.  We were hoping to take pictures outside before the ceremony, but unfortunately it started raining right when we needed to take the pictures. So, we took most of the bridal party photos inside the museum before the ceremony.

After the wedding ceremony, we just happened to look out a window and saw that the rain had stopped and the clouds had parted.  We had a few minutes when the lighting was just perfect and was able to get some amazing portraits of Mark and Dara.  Here are a few favorites from the evening.

Rhea and Drew - An Engagement by Sunny Thomas

We love engagement sessions.  The couples are always excited about the big day coming up. They're excited to take pictures and share those pictures with friends and family.  Many of our clients use the portraits from the session for wedding invitations or save the date postcards.

When doing engagement sessions, we try to find a location that is meaningful to the couple. For Rhea and Drew, they love coffee.  So the first half of the session was at a nearby coffee shop.   Here are a few favorites.
